Earth Day

Earth day,

The day we are supposed to help the planet, the same planet that has supplied us with every resource and flimsy hope that we as humans can conjure. This is the planet that has survive millions of years of pain, fire, and death to give us beauty. This beauty is coveted yet demolished my the same species. A species full of greed and of anger so conceited and mislead that they believe it is theirs. They belong to the planet and not the reverse, the planet that is so forgiving and kind. It meticulously works to maintain an order. An order that is stoic and unchanging yet we dare try and defer. The image it so meticulously created is dissected and mistreated by its own spawn. How then is it fair of us to complain or make demands for our daily rain. This planet has done nothing, but try to fight for survival so it may not die, it continues to live, filling life with beauty, but all we seem to do is ask it for more and then destroy its life's work. What has the world come to, a world where we only have one day that we think about our planet. A world where we only do good for a day, when we ruin, destroy, and waste others away. I don't know what the future will hold or if I'll live to long enough to be old, but I know that the course we are going is dark, the future ahead looks dreary and dim, but that does not mean that we cannot turn around, halt the train, and reverse our terrible hold on this innocent planet. I just hope we can stop in time.

I'm a Grad student now studying Biochemistry and Biophysics (not sure how I got there). I guess I've been using this site for nearly 8 years now though sometimes I went years without writing much of anything. I write what I feel and I write what I need to let go of. Sometimes I write about a dream or a nightmare I had, If I can tell the difference. I fell in love for poetry in high school and continued to write in college. I hope to publish a book someday as well (leave a comment if a poem speaks to you). P.S. My Instagram is @CottonCandyPoems
