Easy peasy lemon squeezy

One day you’re young,

Eager to learn

The next day you’re older

And don’t know the way to the goals that you yearn

This stage of life is confusing

Always throwing twists and turns

It used to be so easy,

Everything would land right in your lap

Things are changing now

And you miss the days when there was always time for a nap

Can it all slow down?

Just enough for me to catch my breath

But it’s not that simple

I don’t have that kind of power

I’ve learned to be okay with that

Because it’s all in God’s plan

He sees the end

When I am lost in the middle

Which way should I go?

To be a therapist?

To work in broadcasting?

Will I even get into college?

It used to be so easy

I never had a doubt

So many thoughts now clutter my mind

All I want to do is shout

Your life is always at God’s speed

Even if it doesn’t feel like your pace

“Your world’s not falling apart

It’s falling into place”

The process of growing is beautiful to watch

Though it may be grueling to experience

I know that I’ve changed over the years

But I feel the most change happening as we speak

My parents split when I was young

Too young to comprehend

We moved and moved

I didn’t ask why

I shouldn’t ask questions

It’s too painful to speak

It took simmering to fully absorb

Eventually, I figured it out on my own

I realized that money was the source

The source of heartache

The source of miscommunication

The source of our struggles

It used to be so easy

You were oblivious to all the struggles

Now that you see it all clearly

It only becomes more jumbled

Some things are meant to last

Some just aren’t

Instead you will gain something from it:

A lesson

A memory

A friend

Or in my parents case:

Six children

People tell me that’s a lot

To me, it’s all I know

A lot of people; a lot of perspectives

There’s never just one side of a story

I find myself in the heads of others

Figuring their take on things

Maybe I could, one day, counsel them through that situation

Maybe I could tell their story through film

But wait, I have to make it to college first

No matter where I go

Who I’ll see

What I’ll do

Or When it’ll be

It’ll all be for the glory of our Lord and Savior

That’s my lesson

I’ve been changing, growing

Though I’m not done, I know how it’ll turn out

No I don’t know what job I’ll have, or where I’ll be, or if I’ll end up like my parents

But I do know that no matter what life throws at me

I will stand strong

That’s a promise

No it won’t be easy

No I won’t give up
