Eating
tearing, ripping, consuming,
fragile,
not tangible,
yet so destructive in power.
so vicious, so cruel,
so natural.
girl, most in fact, share,
the knawing at flesh
from the inside.
all-consuming.
avoid mirrors
and reflections,
chasing magazine pages
in coldness
alone.
corners, where two walls meet
but
so much more,
it seems.
heaviness, unshakeable,
unforgiving,
too much, too much…
comparison will
be the death
of society.
of self-esteem.
why, oh, why?
words drip down pages
images wracking pain
too deep
unfixable,
it seems.
sleepless nights, tossing
and turning
and thinking
blaming, mostly.
wrong.
always wrong.
not good enough.
not now
not ever.
that’s why.
appearance, seemily important
so fragile
not tangible.
insecurities, always haunting
waiting for another chance
to eat
at young girls
and their self-esteem.
