The Edge
The Edge is always there
It knows where to find me
I cannot escape it's clutches
I'm unable to flea
It holds me in its firm grasp
As if it doesn't want to let go
The Edge claims to be a friend
Though I know it's a foe
It likes to ask me questions
It wants to know my name
I'm afraid to answer
I'm afraid it'll fuel the flame
It whispers in my ear
In its icy cold voice
"Why don't you come closer?
I am your best choice."
I stand there quietly
My face holds a blank stare
Maybe it'll go away
If I pretend it isn't there
It's angered by my silence
"You can't ignore me forever!
You're ignorant and weak!
You'll end up like the others."
"What makes you different?
Why should you be alive?
Nobody cares about you
Who cares if you die?"
You won't amount to anything
What have you got to lose?
You deserve to perish
So it's me you should choose."
I nod ever so slightly
I know that it's right
Maybe I should listen to it
And give up the fight
I'm unsure of what I want
I have yet to decide
And still the edge draws me closer
At least I can say that I tried..
