the educated choice

write a poem, they said.

it'll be fun, they said.

you can express you thoughts,

show us your dreams, they said.

build a castle with your words.

fill the sky with strange new birds.

create strange new tales for us all, they said.

show us you splendor, they said.

be a wound mendor, they said.

fix the pain that we feel in our hearts.

show us new hope, they said.

not a slippery slope, they said.

for our footing is much too unsure.

show us the way, they said.

a brand new day, they said.

and fill your words with a passionate alure.

fine, i'll write a poem, I said.

yeah that'll show 'em, I said.

but how wrong was I to think such foolish thoughts.

write us more poems, they said.

just a few more, they said.

but my mind has given all that it has got.

so now i sit here.

awaiting the sheer,

joy that was promised to me by voice.

but i don't think it will show.

so i'll let my mind regrow.

I feel like that would be the educated choice.

Amazing! I loved the repetitiveness and the alitteration, I entered the slam too! Good Luck!
