Education

As I sit in class,

Moping,
Daydreaming,
Looking at the clock

As I tune out the teacher,
The math,
The english,
The science,

I think.

When I sit at home,

In my desk,
Pondering over math,
Writing the essay due tomorrow,
Reading a textbook,

I wonder.

When I graduate,

When I'm on that stage with everyone else,
Cheering,
Laughing,
Tossing the cap,

I smile.

This is what education is.

Not the hours you put into getting good grades,
Not the awards you get for a high GPA or perfect attendance,
But for the enlightment,
The wonder,
The knowledge,
The how-to,

That comes with it.

This is truly what education is.
