Eggshell
I felt like just any other girl
So ordinary that there was nothing extra
But something yearned within me
Something needed to be let out
That something had potential
That potential could've been something huge
But I refused to let something that special out
Into that hateful, God forsakened world
And like my potential, I kept it hidden inside
Behind that dark, hard, external shell
But even with that beauty within me
I craved for something more
Internally and externally
So you can imagine the hesitation I felt when he saw me
He chose me
He picked me up
So gently in case I broke
He said I was different from the rest
He said I was beautiful
He said I was perfect
He wanted to get to know me
He wanted me to crack
Being complimented by this handsome stranger
I couldn't help but feel protected and cherished
But I couldn't open up to him just yet
How could I trust him
How could I like him
How could I open up to him
But eventually
I finally opened up to him
I let my hidden beauty show
I let it flow
I never thought I could be
So free
Emotions coursed through me like experiencing Nirvana
That was the day I opened myself up to him
That was the day
He broke me
He lied to me
He hurt me
He threw me away
Pieces shattered like my heart
My happiness faded
I lost all my beauty and potential
Nothing seemed to matter anymore
Empty and cracked
I was
A brokened eggshell
Who was back to being ordinary
How could anyone love me
When I can't even be me
