Egotistical Guilty Conscience

Location

Society whispers
About who we are required to be.

Society tells
Us that we, as human beings,
Who try our best
To be ourselves-
Conforming to another lie-
Are not good enough,
And therefore we are
Judged by the entire world.

People can't be smart,
Or they're
Nerds,
Geeks,
Know-it-alls,
Annoying.

People can't be creative,
Or they're
Weird,
Strange,
Outcasts,
Different.

People can't like themselves,
Or they're
Conceited,
Over confident,
Egotistical,
Pompous.

But what is so bad
About being different?
What is so bad
About liking
The unique people that we are?

Why do we listen to them?
Why do they get to decide
What is acceptable-
Who is acceptable-
And who is not?

Is it such an awful thing
To strive to be
Unlike the rest?
To want to stand out?

I want to stand out.
I want the world
To remember
My name.
But I can't do that
In a world
Like this one,
Where you only
Get accepted by being like
The rest of the conformists
That I am surrounded by
Daily.
Society whispers.
