Egyptology

One land, Long ago, People built Amazing temples They were The Egyptians Egyptology Why won’t you study it with me? Egyptology Come and explore it with me. On that land, So long ago, They worshipped Their many gods. Some were loving and kind, Others were vengeful and wicked. Egyptology Why won’t you study it with me? Egyptology Come and explore it with me. They had Many rituals Some for death Others for tests of strength Egyptology Why won’t you study it with me? Egyptology Come and explore it with me. They believed That the sun died Each night and was reborn Every morning, And that death was the west. Egyptology Why won’t you study it with me? Egyptology Come and explore it with me. They believed That their kings were gods Born again Hence the name: Pharaoh (God on Earth) Egyptology Why won’t you study it with me? Egyptology Come and explore it with me. They believed Death was Another journey Waiting for them To prepare for After this life Before you die. Egyptology Why won’t you study it with me? Egyptology Come and explore it with me. They believed that Once you die, Your heart is weighed Against a feather of truth As Thoth records the results And Anubis tries to give you support If your heart is heavier Then it is fed to Amut The crocodile-headed pet to the gods. Egyptology Why won’t you study it with me? Egyptology Come and explore it with me. The god Set Killed his brother, Osiris, And was defeated by Horus, Son of Osiris, as revenge In the battle, Horus lost an eye Which became a sacred talisman For protection in Osiris’s realm (the underworld) Egyptology Why won’t you study it with me? Egyptology Come and explore it with me. The pyramids reach so high, Dedicated to pharaohs of old Some believe they are tombs Yet we just cannot know The pyramids and temples Need to be searched From top to bottom Just to be sure That they are empty. Egyptology Why won’t you study it with me? Egyptology Come and explore it with me. Their language was a mystery to us A beautiful mystery that we unlocked With the Rosetta Stone. Egyptology Why won’t you study it with me? Egyptology Come and explore it with me. Now we can read their inscriptions Of their journeys Through life and death As well as their history From their eyes Egyptology Why won’t you study it with me? Egyptology Come and explore it with me. We can read their writings, However, we cannot speak their language It was lost in the sands of time. Egyptology Why won’t you study it with me? Egyptology Come and explore it with me. See their great jewelry and gold Of the wealth once beheld Now it is in vast ruin An empire now lost and broken. Egyptology Why won’t you study it with me? Egyptology Come and explore it with me. Their culture was lost as they converted To monotheism, and primarily to Islam. Some were Arabs and Some immigrated to the United States. Egyptology Why won’t you study it with me? Egyptology Come and explore it with me. They fought many wars Some for defense Others for goods, precious and unique. Egyptology Why won’t you study it with me? Egyptology Come and explore it with me. Why does this matter now, you ask? Just think of all the wars they fought, And the reasoning behind it Isn’t it like the reason we are in Iraq? If you don’t know your history, It is bound to be repeated. So, why won’t you study it with me?
