Eighteen

What is it like to be eighteen?

Eighteen is driving down a dark road

Blasting music

At 12 am.

Eighteen is a baby eagle

Just leaving

The nest.

Eighteen is calling your mom

In a panic

To make your doctor’s appointment

For you.

Eighteen is heavy kissing

Under the stars.

Eighteen is a haunted

Woods trail.

Eighteen is the beginning

Of a chapter

Not the end

Of a story.

Eighteen is a headache.

Eighteen is twenty one

And sixteen

At the same time.

Eighteen is impatience.

Eighteen is dopamine

Fireworks

In the brain.

Eighteen is laughter.

Eighteen is tears.

Eighteen

Is just really weird.
