El Jefe

Since I was little you gave me your time

I never thought much of it

I always thought you would be there no matter what

I took that for granted

When I came from school

You would be there ready to greet me

Greet me with a smile and to say “Como te fue Mechuda”

Nicknames was always your specialty

I never realized how much that meant

I never realized how much I would miss it

I never realized your time here was short

It all came in an instance like a car crash coming out of nowhere

You started going to the doctors

First it was once in awhile then it started to become more often

I was too naive to see how serious it was

The disease was like a virus in a computer

You don't notice how bad it is until it comes with all its force

It was slowly killing you but you kept a smile

The smile you held was still there

Even through the painful treatments you went through there was still a smile

You were being considerate and not having people worry

You made jokes about anything

The jokes you made helped not only you but everyone

It lifted our spirits to know that you were looking at the cup half full

But the doctors visits became more and more consecutive

The day was like a jack in the box

It came out of nowhere and we didn't expect it

It was a day in which it felt as if the grey clouds were following me everywhere

The sorrow I felt as well as the guilt and regret

The guilt and regret of not being able to say my last goodbye

To be able to say thank you for everything

To be able to say I will make you proud

I hate that I don't remember the last thing I said to you

I hate that I didn't make every minute last …...

…….I hate that I didn't say my last goodbye to you
