Elegy to Childhood
Once upon a time, it seemed
I only needed hopes and dreams.
The world was my oyster
And I its pearl.
The imagination of a little girl.
I could do it all in an afternoon,
Cast a spell, adventure the moon,
But the sun now sets a little too soon.
The falling sun, brings night- dark. Stifling. Truth.
And one must abandon the imagination of youth.
Once upon a time is done.
Lost in the past, gone with sun.
The world is an oyster,
And I its grit.
Left in the dark to sigh and sit.
Passing the days, biding my time,
Making up a stupid rhyme,
Praying to God, someday ill find...
A rising sun, new day- bright, hopeful view,
A forgotten dream when once upon a time was true.
