Elegy For My Happiness

The trees used to sing to you then

The warm sun on your back,

The red flowers blooming, opening, calling to you.

Oh what a fool you were.

Your laughter breaking the silence;

That Blissful Silence,

Ruined by your laughter.

You smiled when you had nothing to smile for.

Why were you smiling?

Was it to hide the pain?

The sorrow?

There was nothing for you to smile about.

We were happy then.

Weren't we?

Skipping across the multicolored tiles in the schoolroom.

Whistling that happy tune.

That pointless, happy song.

Like there was no care in our world.

Why was I happy then,

But not happy now?

Is there something wrong inside of me?

The blissful pain of numbness is consuming,

So why do I care?

Is it wrong to be sad when there is nothing to be happy for?

Oh how I long for the days

When I was happy

When the trees used to sing to me.
