Elemental

He asked me for a metaphor today I said well, I am. He said I don't think you understand The comparison. I said, Everything's misunderstood I try to paralyze to be earth, So still and stable and strong, But I can't I quake you see, I barely even stand. I try to be the wind, Move on and never stay I try to buck off burdens But impermanence is decay I'm told I burn like fire When I unleash my tongue And I can't help what burns inside Because flame is the song I've sung. They say I'm wild, like water, And I can't be held or tamed But the pain of a wandering spirit Is that it will never be saved I told the preacher with startled eyes I'm not earth, wind, fire, water Though I quake, breathe, scorch, And drown. Earth is I Wind is me And fire and water Are my melody. I am only empty, and I mean nothing Except the things that speak through me. All death is certain.
