Elementary Memories

Memories echo through the hallway

The haunts of children’s laughter floats around the playground.

Time has made the building smaller,

This place where my new life had begun.

On the swings is where our friendships formed

In the bushes is where we built our forts.

The innocence of youth in its glory days

Remembrances of good times are all that remain of our smiles and laughter.

Sometimes I miss the simplicity of it all

Back when life consisted of snack time and Blue’s Clues.

When no one held a grudge longer than recess

And school was a fun place.

These days, life is never simple

Arguments can last weeks, months or years.

School is now hated,

By the very children who used to crave its presence.

That building will be destroyed

Everything I loved, shattered.

The swings will be knocked down,

Our bushes ripped out.

South will be annihilated,

but I will hold onto the memories, of when life was easy.
