Eleven

Eleven, my dear,
Eleven, my fear.
The hands on the clock
seem frozen here.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Absence makes the soul grow stronger.
But the question that still plagues my heart
asks whether we must always wander.

Eleven, my dear,
Eleven, my tear.
The distance is great
but my heart draws near.

"Nothing lasts forever," they say,
And the words haunted me on that day.
But though our time together may be over,
our separation too will pass away.

Eleven, my dear,
Eleven, give ear
to the whisper of hope that blesses this year.

The clock strikes midnight,
the end is in sight.
And we'll be together
til dawn's first light.
