emaciated

those who are starving themselves always want to feel less hungry,
less reliant on any one or thing that has the power to control them
to change them
at all

free from desire
you stare at a frail image
is this a mirror or something crueler
you’re too tired to know

and your wrists are so tiny that no one can hold on
they try and grab you,
but you are so far gone,
free from all your bonds

and isn’t it beautiful?

isn’t this everything we’ve fought for
isn’t this worth all of those nights you wet your pillows
and screamed
all those damn knives in your dreams
isn’t it beautiful?

they think they have you,
that you are weak because you have no link to others
but weakness is being tied down

and you -

you are free
