Embers
Members of the embers
Still glowing in the night
Emitting what little they can
Against December’s awful fright
They once knew, but can’t remember
Thought they try with all their might
The glory days of past Septembers
Of a thousand flying kites
Members of the embers
Still burning at the site
Of festivities now forgotten
Lost somewhere in November’s flight
