The Embrace

Do you remember me?

All the silly things we did together?

All the silly things we said?

They are locked tight in my memory.

They will never escape my arms.

But, in the whirlwind of life's love and life's heartbreak,

Have they escaped yours?

In holding tight to new people and new memories,

Will you lose your grip on the old?

Have you?

When you have his children,

When you hold them in your arms like you used to hold me

In your arms,

Will there be room in that embrace -

For me?

Or if I'm left way out in your peripheral,

Maybe I'll just sneak up from behind

And hug you all.
