Embrace it

My skin is brown or black?

I’m not sure cause people call me black.

I’m confused.

You should hear what people call me.

“Aye chocolate come here”

I’m confused.

Chocolate is brown.

Isn’t it?

“I like my girl as dark as I like coffee”

The coffee you like is dark.

Isn’t it?

I heard a rapper say

“The darker the berry the sweeter the juice”

I’m aware berries are dark.

Apparently you are too.

I seen dark people on the cover of Essence magazine.

Celebrating their skin.

Chanting

“my black is beautiful”

“my black is beautiful”

So if they can so can I.

So ill Chant too

“my black is beautiful”

Even when I didn’t believe it, I spoke it into existence.

I Chanted

Skin

My Skin

My dark skin

My black skin

Is beautiful

And ill love every shade of my body.

Ill Celebrate my skin.

Ill celebrate is melanin in my skin.

I won’t hide from the sun any longer.

I’m embracing

Skin

Body structure

I've been encouraged to embarrass every part of your body.

From my smile, chunky eyes, and high cheek bones.

From my hair weather its short or long, full or thin

My shoulder weather it’s to broad or not broad enough

My love handles, plumped or lean legs

My feet weather they’re big or small.

I EMBRACE IT

Because God made me who i am

Will you?
