Embracing the Fear

Failures.

Successes.

Just labels one wishes not to dwell on.

But does.

Everyone's struggle is different.

The man at the bus stop prays everyday

for at least one meal a day.

The mother at the thrift store

wishes she could afford better clothes.

The broke college student

barely passing calculus.

Everyone has struggles

No one wants to express them.

But where shall all of this pent up stress,

stress that is eating us alive, become released?

For the man at the bus stop,

it goes away from a simply smile

showing to him he's important.

For the mother at the thrift store,

it goes away from seeing her daughter

oh so happy in her purple dress.

For the broke college student,

it goes away the second his grades make it worth it.

And for me you ask?

A struggling writer.

A blocked writer.

An amateur writer.

It goes away from a single poem.

From the freedom it provides.

To the happiness it releases.

Poems have no rules.

There can be no failure

when there are no rules.

Poetry is a writer's escape.

An escape from the rules.

Every thought

Every idea

Every hunch

COUNTS.

Poetry is not a thing to be feared

But a thing to be embraced.
