Emending

On Christmas Day I wrote a poem that fell several stories and

Landed on its back

No one could help it,

Nor did it particularly need help

It was influenced by gravity and little else

Perhaps a kind woman will invent a place for it, near a kerosene lamp

Bring it into the house and nurture it to health

And say, "Here is the one that I saved and is only now standing"

Emending it, like gravity does the poetry of man and tide.
