Emerge

It was like this for awhile

feeling scared

too scared to look in the mirror

so I would try to avoid it

by looking through it

but all I could see when I looked

were the words just spilling out

spilling out of his mouth

like the raging rapids of the Amazon river after a storm

What he said left me

left me dumbfounded

and heartbroken

I wonder

did he get his wish?

Oh how I've growen to hate myself

I ended up despising myself for a long time

yet I still loved him

and wanted his love

more than anything now

willing to do anything

even change

Till the day

the day you walked in

into my life

you surprised me and

filled my life with joy

but what happened next

I never saw coming and

I would have never guessed

You taught me

taught me it was a good thing to take off the mask

the mask society painted and so kindly gave to me

to cover up

cover up what they consider wrong

You taught me what I started to believe were my imperfections

were really what made me perfect.
