Empathy
What if I gave you my eyes
What if I’d give you a chance to see
If I’d let you see why it’s unfair
Let you see what to me is repugnant
And how it all seems repetitive
What if I’d lend you my hands
So you could touch the wounds I’ve covered
And feel how withered they can get
So you could be the lending hand
And feel the sores reaching far left on your skin
If for a day I’d let you walk with my feet
So you’d learn how to stumble
And then remember how to stand firm.
So you’d lead others, who your steps do not know
And be the first to step into the unknown
What if I’d give you my voice
Would you use it for good?
Or would you crack it
Hide it
Say what I never said
Would you take along my courage as well?
What if I gave you my heart?
So you’d feel my heart break when observing injustice
My desperation of not being able to reach that other hand in time
The burden I carry when in moments I forbid myself to speak
Would you feel the same as me then?
Could you say that you know me then?
