Empathy
My face is blank.
My body aches.
I see you.
I hear you.
I feel your pain.
What you’re going through,
I read it on you,
Like the book you so desperately wish you could write.
Wish you could share what’s on your mind.
Wish you didn’t always have to fight,
But your hands are tied.
Society stops you.
The thoughts of others cripple you.
They’ll never understand.
They can’t comprehend
The level of pain you’re going through
Not allowed to be you.
Who are you?
You once knew.
But now you hide behind a mask.
Or maybe you turn to the flask.
You’re about to crack.
Made of glass.
You’ll never pass,
The test of others
Due to the lack
Of the one thing you so desperately want
To be seen.
To be heard.
For your pain to be felt.
I see you.
I hear you.
I feel your pain.
I read your book.
I know your name.
You don’t have to feel ashamed,
To live your life the way
That only you can.
