The Emptiness

Being alone on an island I have only one fear:

I have everything I could need.

I have my solitude with no one to hear

The thoughts and joy that comes from my greed.

A place in the sand for my feet,

A view that goes on for thousands of miles,

Shaded from danger and heat,

No annoyances, no egos, no juveniles.

I have fruit and water,

And with some exercise for once in my life

My health could be better than ever.

I need no one else, not even to be a wife.

This island has become my sanctuary,

but my life has always been lived this way.

No one came to my aid when beaten and life was scary.

Trust only yourself, so that you can see another day.

I only need my health on this island.

The island itself does me more than any possession can,

the sunset and sunrise is the most beautiful sight from my high land.

Without my health this reality is gone, and I die by my own body's plan..

The sand can be felt in my hand,

The crisp, grinding texture as I close my fingers

and the grains blow away as I see everything firsthand.

Life is slipping away as my body betrays, and my health lingers.

My last moments, and I can only remember here.

Here, the place I put my feet into the slightly chill

Water of the ocean that brings me comfort in my impending fear.

I don't wish to leave the home that I cannot put in my Living Will.

The time has come, and I will never have been ready.

The sanctuary that was my island was the best gift,

And reality could never shake my heart: forever steady.

Here's to my health, and to my life, the one thing that my soul begged me to persist.
