I didn't know

What you meant

When you said you were dead.

You said shadows scared you

And sadness filled your head.

You said razors kissed you,

And silent voices called.

But I know now

What you foretold

When I came home that night

And saw that letter on the counter

Which made my heart grip tight.

I finally knew what you meant

When you said you had died.

The sight of your broken body

Left me

empty

on

the

inside.
