Empty Bliss

Empty Bliss

By: Betsy Aguirre

I believe that the most beautiful thing

is waking up - from a long rest.

Those few moments - sometimes seconds -

are beautiful.

Your worries, your stress

from days before - are nonexistent.

For those few moments - they aren’t real.

They’re gone.

You don’t worry about school

or its problems.

No worries about relationships - or fights

with your parents.

You don’t care about how you look

or whether your mascara has smeared

from crying the night before.

You don’t feel it.

You are just lying there

in an empty bliss.

You are at peace - for once.

You’re vulnerable.

You lay there, not knowing

about the world around you -

as the rest of your mind awakens.

It’s lovely.
