The Empty Cup

The glass of wine so sweet, so fine lifted to these lips of mine at the first my cup was filled but day by day twas drank, twas spilled some I gave some was taken some re-gained some forsaken the glass of wine so sweet, so fine lifted to these lips of mine the final drops more precious still whatever could my cup refill? I asked for more a desperate plea I wanted more all for me the glass of wine so sweet, so fine halted at these lips of mine he whispered to me pour it out I hesitated filled with doubt my greatest treasure yet my bane to give it up is surely pain the glass of wine so sweet, so fine halted at these lips of mine the cup I lowered more empty still with ne’er a chance again to fill what have I left to give away tis nearly empty anyway the glass of wine so sweet, so fine no longer at these lips of mine I hesitated against my will and saw a man more empty still with heavy heart and tired limb I gave my little left to him the glass of wine so sweet, so fine no longer at these lips of mine but when I looked to my delight I found my cup not empty quite I hesitated yet again and wondered what would happen when... the glass of wine so sweet, so fine not to be completely mine I found another poured it out looked again and gave a shout the more I gave the more I had ne’er was my heart so truly glad that glass of wine so sweet, so fine not to be completely mine
