Empty House. Full Heart.

Empty house.

Empty rooms.

Empty heart.

Pictures of a face that I once loved

Strewn about behind me

Like dust trails chasing after a car that speeds away,

Leaving traces of where I’ve been but slowly fading into the wind.

Many days it’s been since you’ve been gone.

Many months it’s been since I’ve been broken-hearted.

And here I sit alone again

With nothing but myself and a tainted, fading dream of

what could have been.

What might have been.

What never happened.

Last night I saw your face again in my dreams

But your words were hollow and stale

Falling with all the poignancy and articulation of

Pebbles in the dirt.

Many things have changed since way back then

But not you.

Foolish was I to think that things would be different.

I said goodbye again

Giving you all my best

Like I had once given you all my heart.

But you stood there

Your silver tongue turning to rust

Your diamond eyes turning to coal.

And here I am, and I stand strong.

My words that I’ve held back too long

Afraid of what others might think

But no more.

So today I speak, as I long should have

And nothing can stop my words now.

Empty house.

Empty rooms.

But my heart is full.

I sit here alone

With pictures of a face that I once loved

Strewn about behind me,

But I see nothing but the sun streaming through the window.

Today I stand

Today I rise

Today I am new
