Empty Promises and Lies

we'd go out in the city

after one of your shows

makeout in the parking lot

of some drug store

you'll write a song about it

and my eyes

and your drugs

and how it makes you feel alive

except you won't

because you feed me

with empty promises

and lies

we take a walk on campus

like you hardly know my name

the night before was a lie

you hardly remember a thing

soon you're walking past

the spots where it all began

except with another girl

who gets to hold your hand

I don't feel the hurt anymore

just a glimpse of past mistakes

I hope that she's your soulmate

as I once thought you were to me
