An Empty Trial

As we walk along this empty trail,

I know that one of us will fall.

And even if I am the one to fail,

I will have tried afterall.

There is a certain peace;

It comes with this great task.

Nothing will ever make me cease,

Nor turn to a half-full flask.

The light may still be far off,

And darkness seems neverending,

But I will keep my voice soft

And hopefully continue ascending.

Life may be filled with hate,

But small bursts of love make my day.
