Before the end of night

Tue, 08/20/2019 - 00:22 -- A Finch

We climbed a hill to see the stars

Before the end of night.

And sang the favorite songs of ours

Until we felt alright.

We slipped beneath one blanket

For the night was cold.

As we sprawled in simple quiet,

I found your hand to hold.

But you could not fall asleep

And so I read to you.

Until sleep did gently creep

And overcome us two.

That is all I can remember

Before my memory swirls from sight:

That we were there together,

Alone, asleep, in love, before the end of night.
