End Of The World

Chaos surrounds me, the cries of pain and fear.

What is happening? I simply cannot comprehend.

Buildings crumbling, fires roaring.. Mother nature has never seemed so angry.

People are so foolishly attempting to escape the grim fate that now awaits them.

Then? Then I see her.

Frozen in my tracks, my mind draws a blank.

Blank like a naked white canvas.

Blank, that is, until the life we had together flashes before my eyes.

Colors of emotions flood me like the unforgiving tide.

From the rainy days on the couch, to the sunny ones on the beach.

From the spontaneous adventures, to the dates I made sure went perfectly.

From the moments of pure bliss, to the gut wrenching battles of our indifference.

Yet in this very moment? I see nothing short of perfection.

In such a peaceful serenity, the world around me disappears.

Engulfed in the beauty of her existence, she is all I see.

Abruptly catching my gaze, what she does next takes me by surprise.

"I love you" she mouths..

Ever so lost in the windows of her soul, I am dumbfounded.

My reflex manages to kick into gear.

"I..."

Silence.

We are no more.
