The Endless

Life is like an endless dance. We pitter and patter, our feet gliding across the smooth floor. Dancing. Dancing. Dancing. My dress is full and I have to lift it to move swiftly like the others. "Don't forget your ballet shoes my dear!" She hands them to me, but I give them to the young girl beside me. Her mind is naive and she is a fool. She will need the shoes. The stage is lit and I see all the flaws. The crowd stands and cheers my name, as I bow heroically. The dance is over, but it has yet to begun. You step before me, your tux as white as the stars. Your eyes are blazing like coals and I feel my heart go aflame. Your hand is suddenly on mine and for a split second I'm unsure. "May I have this dance?"
