Endless

Proverbs 22:5 New English Translation (NET Bible)

5 Thorns and snares are in the path of the perverse,
but the one who guards himself keeps far from them.

Endless routine … addiction to …

An empty glass that I passed up stares me in the face

in the middle of what appears an array of foggy clutter.

Ready for use by a recluse ... who chooses to be in a daze,

in search of comfortable fear to stay down in the gutter.

“I don’t need anyone” seem the last words of a fool.

“I can work it out” his uncertain cry in a losing battle.

Grasping for excuses already worn out by many others

Retreating on the same old path ... that made them shake and rattle.

After the day is done he crawls into his bed retreating

Hoping the darkness will hide the failures of the day.

Waking in the morning facing the day already defeated

by the unknown encounters he hides through work and play.
