Energy Converted

If I could change one thing,
I would have everyone look at the stars,
to show everyone how tiny we are.

If I could change one thing,
I would have everyone look at nature,
down to every microscopic cell,
to show everyone that we are the biggest creatures.

If I could change one thing,
I would have everyone watch an artist paint,
watch the artist move their brush with no restraint.

If I could change one thing,
I would have everyone listen to music,
listen so intently to each artist's muses.

The energy of the food we eat,
converted into the drummer tapping out the beat.

The energy which was once inside,
converted into beauty with each guitar slide.

The singer, sweating, holding the mic stand,
relenquishing the last note, to praise of the band.

To the child at home picking an old guitar,
inspired by looking out at the stars,
uplifted by knowing just how small we are.

If I could change one thing,
I would show that somedays, somedays, our intrinsic human duty,
is to convert energy into beauty.
