Engineer Girl

First day,

Smell of Axe body spray

hard plastic chairs and pixelated screens

short hair and sneakers,

but no pink or ponytails seen.

Every pair of eyes fixed on me

subject I love; class intimidates me

in a sea of masculinity

my gender everyone can see

at school an engineering class

is no place for a girl to be.
