Engineering a Writer
Engineering a Writer
A poem by Obinna Nwoke
June 21, 2013
Why I Write Scholarship Entry
Listen to the writers and the poets from the heavens
Words that made me dream of inking since I was just eleven
To write was not a chore, not an act, but a thrill
The first stanza spilled by the quill was a skill
A Poe in a world of Brunel and Faraday
Tinkering gadgets and new ideals everyday
Take from my soul the ambition to write
Replace with a burning ambition to fight
Let ambition take flight. Let ambition make right
The wrongs brought on by my dwindling sight.
Born to tinker and born to build. The will
This writing could just not fulfill.
Take out a gear, a beaker, no pens
No pencils, no poems, God when will they end?
No books, no plays, oh what am I doing?
Engineering is my passion. It’s what I’m pursuing.
