English Class
In English Class
Ms. Basham's room
Essays were written, literature was introduced.
Who would've thought
Music was poetry?
I'll tell you whom
A full class load of freshmen.
But in English class
Not only was poetry read and studied
But also created.
From Haikus to Songs to Sonnets
You name it.
I wrote it
Every morning as my warm-up excersice.
In class we learned about many poets,
But no one stood out better than the others.
Freshman year, my poet heart
Belonged to Shakespeare.
Before starting high school
I never thought
I'd have a passion for poetry,
Let alone understand love and understand Shakespeare.
But in English Class
Ms. Basham's room
Poems were written,
A passion for them was created.
