The Enigma

At the age of nine I was angry at the world because my brother made mistakes,

Even though I should have not been mad, I was...

Because it hurt what he did to himself.

At the age of ten I thought that cutting was the way out.

I became aware that it wasn’t at the age of eleven.

When my grandma passed away volleyball and God came into my life,

The typical story, once someone dies everyone becomes religious

At the age of twelve I was terrified to speak to anyone so I started writing in class.

I did read poems, but I never saw myself as a writer.

Once I started writing poems in class everything was altered.

I forgot about volleyball and writing when I turned sixteen,

Not because I was weary, but because I thought that I was not in too deep to write.

But then everything became a blur when I lost J.B. and Tyson, Manchas and Danny,

Writing is not something that reliefs the pain forever,

It is a reminder of the struggles I went through,

It is the pain that ceases once I write pages of emotions.

It is a delight that shines through my window when I am black and white,

Poetry is not just words in a piece of a paper,

It is a life savior, and it taught me who the real me is.
