Enigma
her eyes speak opposite her smile.
she is why our sisters are known simply
as mysteries to humanity.
except there's nothing to solve.
there's not a culprit, no,
it's a code.
she's not sure she wants you to break it
or if she wanted it in the first place.
when she tries to strip away a protection,
she often adds another layer of steel
to push you away.
she is ready for and incapable of love.
don't ask how.
what you see is not what she is
but what she cowers behind.
breathe for her and know her smile
so you can understand her eyes.
