Enough

Now you might be thinking;

Was that the question or the answer?

What caused me to write such a thing?

Is enough a question or is it the answer?

Its both.

The question that inspired this piece was;

Why am I not good enough?

And my answer was,

you will never be enough.

Enough is a word that haunts us.

We all want to be enough,

but we’ve also had enough.

Why am I not good enough?

Because of the standards

placed upon us

by our surrounding society.

You will never be enough.

Why was this ever said?

What standards did our world hold?

Why do we torture ourselves,

with this thinking?

Because of this cursed word,

people use it voluntarily

and use it for cruelty,

not just to say to ourselves,

but also other people.

It is a word rooted deep

in our language

and can never be torn away.

It is a word that has been sunken

into our bones

and flesh

and blood

and causes a screaming pain

with each use.

Enough is a word

that has been used enough
