Enough With Reflections
“You’re less” I hear from their deceptive mouths.
I despise, then I realize, in their eyes it’s all lies,
It’s ignorance, it’s not true. Behind it rests the pain.
But avoid the hate, cuz I know then I’d be the same.
I’d look down on my sisters, I’d spit on the youth.
I’d tell them I’m better, I believe it’s the truth.
With a lens I’d cover my eyes to the world,
To those different, to those poor, to anything but my reflection
I’d feel rage at religions I didn’t know as a girl,
Because anything different, in my covered eyes, is far from perfection.
A deep and darkened black purges out of my throat
And in to the ears of those I feel above
With ease, my words would kick down the tired and cold
Because my own problems won’t be solved with love.
Instead, I run. Run far from my surroundings.
A path of hate is too easy it grounds me
To a life of chains made of other’s hurt
Why use their weakness woven in to my shirt?
I won’t wear tears with pride, I will spread the fight
To end this ignorance I see come each day
There’s reasons for fear of solitude at night
Because violence and words left the world with disarray
I’d change my peers, my past, my present
To accept those different than their own reflection.
