there is a door,

but it does not open for me.

i am not sure why.

perhaps the floorboards beneath hide something

a scale, or a jury

that looks up at me and decides i cannot pass.

maybe i do not have the right key,

or i am not strong enough to turn the handle.

the door does not seem very big, but it is quite heavy.

i believe, however

that it is not a door meant to be opened alone

so i will wait for you to arrive

you will smile, and you will kiss me

and we will open the door together

on, into our lives.
