Equal Opportunities

I’d like think I would change my height,

The fact that my hair doesn’t curl,

Or that my family was extremely rich.

Sure, these things would be nice.

But they don’t teach learning or growth.

One thing I would change

Would have to be equal opportunities.

I am so tired of being classified by race,

How much money my parents make,

What GPA I have,

My best ACT or SAT score.

If we were judged on

How hard we worked,

Who we helped,

And enduring to the end,

I think our society could break

Out of the bonds we have put ourselves in.

If everyone had equal opportunities,

Everyone would have the chance to grow.

When a person grows, they learn about themselves,

Thier likes, dislikes, and what they are good at.

Maybe, the next advancement is hidden deep

In the brain of someone who doesn’t have

An equal opportunity.

We are Americans.

We should believe in

Equality and opportunity for all people.
