What do you see when you look at this and read? Am I just letters on a paper? Am I just a participant to a creator? Am I who you expect me to be? I’ll help you answer that by telling you what equals out to me. Not the Martin Luther King Jr. that fought for his team But that Martin Luther King Jr. that had a big dream. That 14th amendment that stopped people like to me from being deprived Just because someone tried to stop my people, that only increased the drive. That 24th amendment that gave people like me that right to vote Soon enough that led my people to being able to own not only goats but boats. That Langston Hughes that paved the way for people like me to voice our opinions through writings That walking resemblance of Malcolm X that fought for his beliefs Which led me and my people the proper amount of relief. That shadow of Emmett Till so innocent and sweet Which makes me and my people still have to dignity to defeat the odds. That Rosa Parks that wasn’t being stubborn But showing that hard work will always pay off its debt. The riots, the fighting, the laughing, the crying, the debating, the knowing, the not knowing, the crave, the slaves, the hunger, the thirst, the dream… All of the above equal out to me.
