Equations

Quadratic equations

Help us explain

The working world

Expand our minds

With a snap

At the unpredictability

Of numbers and letters

Forming an answer

In the end

With some variety

Some without clarity

Unless you are a genius

I’ve been told,

I am no genius.

Unsolvable equations

Occur in vagarities

The spaces between

Two irregularities

Stretching time before us

Like dunes broken to pieces

Unable to still see

What binds us

Only what keeps breaking us

Pieces of sand

Carried off by the wind

Selfish and incoherent

Tearing through our hearts

Blinding our minds

With stone cold certainity

Facing another calamity

As the same empty words

Echo.

I am no echo.

Does it make you feel better?

Trying to catch the pieces

Grain by grain

As they pass by

Scream your demands

At a world in pain

Offer up prayers

As if solutions fall

From the skies like meteors

Crushing us all

Into a submissive state

A mallaeble people

Schooled not in unity

But divided and afraid

Resting our hopes

On the loudest voices

Irrational and desperate

As if it would silence the pain

That continues unnamed

Unspoken.

Death by a thousand cuts

Is my living death.

I have lost the faith

Of finding answers

Often looking

In empty bottles

Blinded by the pain

I am not malleable

Or easily silenced

Uneasily comforted

Lost in obvious solutions

No one hears

Through the rancor

Between the maniac poles

Of popular opinion

Finding I am so lost.
