Escape

Darkness is a void of emptiness

It strangles my feelings

I could go an entire day

I could feel nothing

As if a never ending night

Came storming through my mind

Kidnapping my emotions

Only the pinpricks of stars give me hope

A smile here

 A chuckle there

They reach into my soul

They saw at the tether of darkness

I try to scratch and claw

Out of this pit

A glimpse of the moon

That's all I need

It doesn't matter how much pain I go through

I cannot reach the surface

One could call this depression

If that makes sense

I don't expect anyone to understand

Pop too many pills

I've become a victim to hallucinations

I can see it in their eyes

The judgements

I could walk through one hallway

Be entirely misunderstood

Maybe they didn't say anything

But they didn't have to

I know because I spend lunches alone

Any sanity I thought was left

Is destroyed by parasites

Parasites of negative thoughts

I am my own hero

The only person that can save me

Is myself

I got a better mirror

Looked a little closer

Stared a little longer

I took a knife to the rope

I used the rope to climb out of the pit

The moon became my light

The stars my believers

I realize now

All the pain I endured

Created something beatiful

I can not ignore it anymore

I see myself
