Escape
Poetry
A release for my thoughts
An escape for my brain
Its 12:01 am on Tuesday night
I can’t sleep
My brain is thumping against my skull
I have so much going on
Who can I talk to?
Everyone is asleep
I can talk to my paper
My black ink ballpoint pen sits in my favorite off-white painted mug next to my bed
Ideas start to flow from my head through my arms, out to my fingers and onto the paper
A sigh
A release of built up emotions
A way to let out everything I can and cannot say out loud
The voice inside my head tells me to keep everything a secrect
Who can you trust these days?
A paper and pen won’t spin the truth
What you write is what you see
There is no right or wrong
There is no up or down
A piece of paper has no impute
The paper listens, it helps me see what I am feeling
It shows me the answers to my problems
The solutions that lie in front of my eyes but are jumbled around in my brain
My brain is the pair of headphones you can’t untangle
One minute they are nicely folded, the next they are in a knot even the craftiest Boy Scout couldn’t recreate
My escape from my realty is my reality
Just the pen, paper and my thoughts
No judgment
My words spill onto to page, they create images and scenarios of my daily struggles
Relief
At least my thoughts are able to escape
The cord seems to untangle itself a little every time my thoughts appear on the page in front of me
I trust myself
I know myself
I am released from my pain
From my stress, for just a little while
Poems are my escape
